Who should attend?
This course is for professional users who have a need to fell trees over 380mm in diameter and who have already completed NPTC CS30 and CS31.
What will you learn?
- Identify the Risk Assessment and Emergency procedures on a work site.
- Select equipment required for safe and effective felling.
- Fell medium sized trees safely and accurately using an appropriate method Sned and / or de-limb medium sized trees.
- Crosscut stems over guide bar length in diameter to a given specification.
- Select winching equipment suitable for takedown of a medium sized tree.
- Take down a hung-up medium sized tree with a winch.
Certification
This training is in preparation for NPTC Integrated training and assessment.
Training will take place on 27th November, 28th November and 1st December. NPTC assessment date TBA.

Who should attend?
If you are over the age of 16 and wish to develop your knowledge, understanding, and skills and require proof of competence within your field of expertise then this course is suitable for you.
It doesn’t matter if you are entering a place of work or have already established yourselves in a role. You may already be using your skills across a range of trees and timber operations however, this qualification will enable you to become a more confident worker meeting the current standards of good working practice.
What will you learn?
By the end of this course, you will:
- Gain knowledge and understanding across a range of forestry and arboriculture functions and activities
- Be able to work effectively in a forestry and arboriculture environment, both independently and as part of a team
- Be able to review and develop your own practices, and carry out a range of practical forestry and arboriculture tasks, to the required industry standard
- Improve your awareness of health and safety legislation and how individuals can contribute to the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) agenda
- Obtain occupational competence and/or licence to practice
- Meet the licence-to-practise or other legal requirements made by the relevant sector, profession or industry.
Certification
Training is in preparation for NPTC Level 2 Award in chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting (CS30) and typically testing is arranged 1-2 weeks following training.

This course is designed for Professional users and is typically for people who are seeking contractual work in professional forestry, amenity or utility arboricultural and may be required to fell trees up to 380mm in diameter.
This training is a pre-requisite for anyone who wants to advance to large tree and aerial tree work.
What will you learn?
- Chainsaw maintenance
- Safety procedures
- Use of protective clothing
- Cross cutting felled timber
- Stacking, felling techniques for trees between 200 mm (8″) & 380 mm (15″)
- Snedding & de-limbing
- Taking down of hung up trees using hand tools
Certification
Training is in preparation for NPTC Level 2 Award in ground based chainsaw operations (CS30 CS31). and typically testing is arranged 1-2 weeks following training.

Who should attend?
Anyone who uses a chainsaw to fell small trees.
What will you learn?
- Understand risk assessment procedures
- Assess trees to be felled for hazards and associated risks
- Prepare trees to be felled and escape routes
- Fell trees which have a diameter up to 200mm/8” safely and accurately using different techniques
- De-limb felled trees in a safe and effective manner
- Select and use hand tools and maintain them in a safe condition
- Take down hung-up trees using hand tools
- State techniques that must not be used for the takedown of hung-up trees.
Certification
The course provides both training and assessment, so that by the end of the course you know whether you have reached the Lantra Awards standard. If you are successful, you will be awarded not only a Certificate of Basic Training, but also a nationally recognised Skills ID Card

This course is typically for people who are seeking contractual work in professional forestry, amenity or utility arboriculture.
This unit is a pre-requisite of Level 3 Award Aerial Cutting of Trees Using Free-fall Techniques (CS39)
What will you learn?
- Understand the legislation relating to tree climbing.
- Identify a range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to work positioning systems.
- Identify hazards and manage the associated risks.
- Choose appropriate anchor points.
- Use climbing irons safely and efficiently.
- Carry out aerial rescue techniques.
Certification
This training is in preparation for NPTC Level 2 Award in tree climbing and rescue (CS38) and typically testing is arranged the week following training.
If trainees do not wish to proceed through to testing, a LANTRA certificate of attendance is issued following the completion of the training.
